The USA Air Force Research laboratory has spent significant time and resources testing UHP against traditional firefighting systems. The findings are significantly in favour of UHP and the effect this technology has on Class A and Class B fires.

The UHP system offers a faster and safer attack and is ultimately more effective than traditional firefighting systems. As firefighters operate in the time management space — faster response ensuring firefighting operations are undertaken without any time delay — this is the added advantage of the BLITZ Tactical UHP.

Why the BLITZ Tactical UHP outperforms traditional systems

The BLITZ Tactical UHP can be mounted onto any chassis cab with a +3500kg GVW, including single or double cab configurations. The degree of efficiency of traditional firefighting methodologies is estimated at only 10–20% — meaning up to 90% of water applied has no extinguishing effect. By contrast, Tactical UHP technology is estimated at 90–95% effective.

US Air Force Civil Engineering Centre testing proved the system used 45% less water than traditional systems, resulted in faster room cooling, and used just one-fifth the water for de-smoking (hydraulic ventilation). The fully charged 19mm discharge line is lighter and easier to handle than traditional discharge hoses, and tests show a greater than 300% improvement in firefighting efficiency using Tactical UHP.

The Tactical UHP breaks down traditional water droplets into 64 micro droplets, covering 10–12 times the surface area of conventional systems. Micro droplets delivered at high-energy displace oxygen, disperse radiant heat, reduce flame velocity, and raise humidity to 30% and above — conditions in which fire cannot be sustained. The system supports both Class A and Class B foam application for maximum operational versatility.

The BLITZ Tactical UHP delivers precision of attack — arrive early and hit hard. The system offers minimal water damage and minimises environmental impact and collateral damage. A minimum number of first responders are required to operate the unit, and the application of Tactical UHP technology prevents exposure to carcinogens, offering greater firefighter safety with less exposure to smoke, heat and steam.

The Tactical UHP application lowers the risk of flashovers and backdrafts and allows greater emphasis on controlling the gas phase of the fire instead of only focusing on the fuel phase. The micro droplets allow for a longer hang time in the atmosphere, and the speed (velocity) of the micro droplets greatly influences the absorption of heat — providing immediate thermal conversion of water to steam for rapid heat absorption.
